Disneyland 2001 Album Redo Series (#2)

Last night, after posting about my goal to re-scrapbook our Disneyland album, I was full of energy to start.  So for the first time in I don't know how long, I scrapbooked (not Project Life style).

When I opened the album, I had found that I had already started to scrapbook a page.  But after trying to complete it, I knew I had to start over.  The background paper it was on was too distracting.

Anywho…Here is the "before" page:

Again with all the stickers.  And the main reason I wanted to ditch my original scrapbook…I cut out around the photos…major fail!

And here is the "after":

The photos were already stuck to the vellum on my first attempt to redo this page, so I left them.

I had messed up and wrote "here" instead of "her" on my journaling and I didn't want to waste the paper, so I fixed it by adding a rhinestone, then randomly placing them on the journaling.  I had also messed up and wrote "favorite's" instead of "favorites"…again saved by the rhinestones.

I did struggle with the title though…but rhinestones fix everything, right?  I might have over "blinged" it ha ha ha.

See the top right?  I made a Mickey Mouse with the rhinestones :)

Well thanks for looking.

Disneyland 2001 Album Redo Series (#1)

One of the items on my "2014 Scrapbooking Goals" is to complete our 2001 Disneyland trip.  Now when I first started to scrapbook in 2003, our 2001 Disney trip was one of the first scrapbooks I had completed.

Then, "why?", do you ask, do I have it on my "To Do" list this year?  Well a few years ago, I decided to redo this album.  I know there are a lot of people that do not go back and re-scrapbook their albums, but I have learned so much since I scrapbooked this album with no direction and feel like I need to start over with it.

Around 2005, I had taken some classes at a couple of Scrapbook Expos.  Two of those class were Disneyland layout classes.  The class was taught by a now closed scrapbook store, Remember When :(

I used two of those 2-page layouts to redo a couple of pages so far, but I hope to complete the album this year.  This might not be too big of a challenge since in 2001, I was not taking as many pictures as I do now.  I might have had 2 rolls of film during that trip.  Yep, I just counted and I had a measly 46 pictures from that whole trip!!!! Wow, life with a digital camera (and camera phone) has sure changed the amount of pictures I now take.

So this is my "before" Title page:
I still really love the "Mickey" hats I made and will probably incorporate them somewhere else in the album.

Now here is the "Remember When" layout along with other pictures I took from the album:

Here is the second "before" layout:
I really love Pooh!  But these stickers are so dated :)  I am sure my 80's 11 year-old self would have loved these in her sticker book!

And here is another "Remember When" layout:

The layout actually was made for Pooh!  These stickers came with the class kit and are more modern than my Dollar Store stickers above.

**I will note how scrapbooking as evolved for me.  Even in the "After" layout, I am reading my journaling now and do not like that I am talking about myself in 3rd person--ugh, but I will leave it.

I love the pages made in class, but I will be honest that I am sure the other pages will not follow the same styling techniques.  I have a really hard time layering like they do in classes.

I've already re-scrapbooked 9 of the 46 pictures and I have also learned that I do not have to scrapbook every picture I take…so I may be done in no time at all.

Thank you for looking.  I was inspired to share these layouts since my crafty Aunt Renee just shared her Disney layouts…she is new to scrapbooking and already knows not to use deco scissors :) and I think I finally got her into the cult--um, I mean hobby :D

Throwback Tuesday :)

{The journaling reads "4 Roundtrip airfare tickets…$X.  Rental car for 4 days…$X.  Hotel stay for 3 nights…$X.  16 tickets to 4 games…$X.  First trip to the Giants Spring Training…Priceless"
during that time, the Priceless commercial was popular.  The actual prices are inside the envelop.  I figured it might be fun for future generations to see how much things cost in 2007…I'm actually wondering what the costs were now…ha ha ha}

I made this layout a long time ago…2007!  (This photo is one of my favorites still!)  In March 2007, we took our kids (10 and 11 at the time) to the San Francisco Giants Spring Training in Arizona.

While we were there, we drove around and seen the ASU campus.  I seen a couple of girls in short shorts and bikini tops walking across the street from the campus.

I turned to my husband and said, "Aaron is not going to college here!  He is going to college in Alaska where the girls have to wear parkas to class!"

Fast forward 7 years…my son got accepted to ASU!  It is not at the top of his list yet, but there is a possibility he may go were it is so hot that the girls walk around practically naked!!!

Now my family is trying to tell me that we need to go visit the campus this March (while Spring Training is going on--ha ha ha).

For now, I will just remember my sweet 10 year-old.

Thanks for letting me share my excitement.

My new Toy--Silhouette Cameo

This past Thanksgiving, I won a Silhouette Cameo from Paper Crafts Magazine.  I mean what are the odds!!!  I was so excited.

Then I waited and waited and waited.  I had thought (and hoped) that my husband and kids had intercepted the package and were going to wrap it for Christmas--no such luck.  Then I thought it was a joke or worse, it was delivered to the wrong house!

Then finally on December 30, I heard UPS drop something at the door (not even with a knock) and I opened the door and the clouds parted and the angels sung...ha ha ha...ok, that was just in my crazy head.

It was finally here!!

For Christmas, I had asked for a Gift Certificate to Silhouette America (not Silhouette Online not sure why they have to have two separate entities that aren't interchangable, but that is the way it is) so I could buy the Designer Edition of the software when it went on sale (it was 40% off on Black Friday, but I wanted the machine in my hands before I got the software)--I am cheap and need to use a coupon!  Anyway, this past weekend, because of CHA, there were a few 30% off coupon out there...I went back and forth whether I should buy it...or wait to see if maybe I could get it for 40% off...yeah I know!!!  I finally got it along with a teal cover and some canvas paper.  Less my certificate, I only paid 60 cents :D

And last weekend, Joann's had a 32 cent shipping sale and the fabric blade was 40% off...so I scored that for cheap too!

Have I used it yet?...YES!!!  I've cut 3 items.

I had gotten a clear iPhone case in October and I still hadn't put any decorative paper inside, so I found this free cut from Get Silvered Craft and made pretty cover for my phone.

Then I cut this coffee cup (I bought the cut right after Black Friday when the files were 50 cents a piece!).  I've made crocheted coffee cozies in the past and want an easy way to cut a "coffee cup" to put the cozy on.

(sorry the green stripes clash with the blue cozy)

Then I found this SVG New Year's file from SVGcuts.com and made a card for my crafty aunt.

Ok, seriously, I have a cheapness problem ha ha ha.  I am all about the free cuts.  The machine came with a $10 download card and I've only spent $2 on clearance cuts.  Did you know every Tuesday, not only do they have a free cut to download, but they have different cuts on clearance...EVERY WEEK!!!!  But if you have time and search the web there are a lot of similar cuts that are free.

I really hope to use the machine often.

My only negative right now is that the mat is super sticky!  I had read to rub a cotton shirt on it to make it less sticky, but I didn't listen and the gold paper I used was kinda thin and really hard to take off.

My "TO DO" board

This magnetic board has been on my wall for a few years now, but I recently transformed it from just a "mood" board that had a bunch of random pictures on it...to this.

What is it?  I had added a list to my blog at the beginning of the year of my scrapbooking goals I want to complete this year, but I thought if I seen them on my real wall, I might actually do them.

Luckily, I had the perfect turquoise blue post-its on hand to match!

I really hope to get at least 1 or 2 of the items complete this year…

Originally, this board was an all white board, but I repainted it a couple of years ago to match my black/turquoise decor.

*A couple of my 'L's (I have random L's in my craftroom--like Laverne :)
*the basket is magnetic, I found at Ross already in the perfect color
*the giant clothespin (also in the perfect color) was found at Michaels
*I can't seem to take my Amy Tangerine pens out of the cute box and they don't fit in my pen box...so they are displayed to make my area look pretty
*The flowery dress is a Cricut cut I made through the Cricut Craftroom and have been meaning to share...another "to do" post :)
*Usually that basket is full of random stuff (junk?)...I just prettied it up for the picture!

ok...I lied...another crochet project :D

I was trying to hold off on doing any crochet projects until I got some scrapbooking done, but I was sitting on the couch catching up on American Horror Story and Castle and it dawned on me that I have been wanting to do this project for a while and I am just sitting here so I might as well do something "productive".

My friend Liz embroidered this for me a long time ago...like 2 years ago (sorry, Liz!).  First, it took me awhile to actually get a hoop because I'd forget every time I was at Micheals or Joanns or Hobby Lobby...which is quite often.  I finally got a hoop and I had planned on painting it turquoise to match all the other stuff I've painted in my craftroom...but it just sat in my "To Do" box.

Then this past September, I seen this cute crocheted hoop that Sew Chatty made.  Luckily, I hadn't painted the hoop yet.  Although I think I would have still crocheted the border even if I had painted it :)  Maybe I should have gone with a better colored yarn though instead of boring white :D

Ok...this will be the last crochet project for a while (maybe!) ha ha ha.

Thank you for looking.

Baby Blanket (Raiders--boo!)

I know I've been posting a lot of crocheted items lately.  But I think this will be the last one for a while.  I really want to scrapbook more this year.  I even made a list of items I want to complete this year.

Anyway, my husband's friends have been having babies recently!  This is the 3rd baby blanket I've made in the last 18 months for his friends.  Unfortunately, this friend is a Raider fan (boo!) ha ha ha.

It actually took me 19 weeks to work on it because I'd put it down and not think about it for a while.  Then I had to wait to see if they were having a boy or girl (It's a girl--3 football color blankets...3 girls!  ha ha ha).  I used a basic granny square pattern for 45 rounds, then 3 hdc rounds and finally a shell (to make it girly)…the result was 49 rounds…hmmm…coincidence?  I think not! :D  (Let's go Niners!)  It is actually a bit big, but that means they can use it on the floor and use it into the toddler years.

Thanks for looking!  And wish me luck that I make time to scrapbook soon!

More Crocheted items

In November and December, I crocheted 6 hats and an infinity scarf for my co-worker.

So of course I'd love to share them :)

These first two hats were kind of trial and error.  I used this pattern to figure out the edge, but I had to keep redoing them because they would either be too big or too small…but I finally got it just right :)  The first hat, I did a double crochet (not the stitch in the pattern at all).

This second hat, unlike the pattern, I used an alternating single crochet and double crochet to get the look.

Then I made my first infinity scarf (this was before my scarf turned infinity).  This was also a trial and error.  I first made it too short, then I made it too long…finally I got it just right :D (I totally need to stick to patterns).  It is supposed to go with the hat above, so I did the alternating single crochet, double crochet stitch throughout the scarf.

Then I made these easy double crochet hats for 2 boys and 1 guy.

And finally, I made this hat.  It was requested by my co-worker, but I seriously wasn't happy with the outcome…I guess I just didn't like the look.  But my daughter said she totally liked it (I think that is a big plus) and my co-worker said she loved it--but she wanted it so would she say she hated it?  This one I did use a pattern from Red Heart.

Thank you for looking!

San Francisco Bazaar--Craft Fair

Nearly a month ago, I ventured out with Liz and Jossie to attend the San Francisco Bazaar.

I love going to craft fairs.  They are inspiring, but I really wish I was a billionaire, so I could support all the local artists!

Here is my loot from the fair.

From Tint & Tonic I purchased some "beach-like" hair sprints to see if I could tame my hair (haven't tried it yet) and orange hair chalk (for my daughter).

From Hello! Lucky, I found the cutest Christmas cards--that I never sent out :/

Then we met the nicest girl, Meagan, from Brown Pigeon.  I bought her book because she was so sweet!  I have no idea if I will ever make my own stamps :/

After she signed my book, she posed for a picture with me (photo courtesy of Liz).

We found the Zig Zag City Guide booth and I fell in love with the cute cartoon cards.  I do not have a young child, but I think I can use the cards for scrapbooking.  I was going to get the New York City set, until I seen the Giants card…then I had to get the San Francisco set!!

And finally, we walked back around and I bought a cute knitted hat for my Goddaughter from Nisey Knits because I loved the look, but I cannot knit!

I spent a little more than I would have normally spent, but it is going to local artists!!  I did collect a lot of cute business cards along the way.

I seriously wish I could have bought an item from everyone!  Such talent San Francisco!!!

Then we headed over to Typo in the Stonestown Galleria.  They had lots of funny stamps, but I only bought 3 along with the cutest vintage looking photos.

Isn't the bag so cute!

And my fabulous friends gave me the cutest bag of goodies.

Jossie initialed this mug for me :)

And don't laugh, but no fair is complete without a trip to the Magnolia PhotoBooth.

Yes, we had a fun silly time!
